Steel Arch Truss Bridge
This steel arch bridge spanned 250 ft. across the Wind River in Wyoming. A vehicle collision damaged a key member of the truss rendering the bridge unable to adequately support design loads. Because of its age the decision was made to replace the bridge. Due to environmental considerations it was important to move the bridge in one piece. However, the bridge was too heavy to move with all members in tact. After determining which members could be safely removed to achieve a weight capable of being lifted with a crane (approximately 350,000 lbs.), a plan to safely remove the bridge in one piece was created.
